The Board of Directors and Staff of the Staten Island Heart Society have a long standing history of involvement in area of cardiovascular health and advocacy with the Staten Island Community. Prior to the formation of the Staten Island Heart Society majority of the Board of Directors sat on the Board of the Staten Island Division of the American Heart Association (AHA). Overtime, these Board Members recognized that the needs of the community could best be met by forming an organization which would have as its only focus, the needs of our borough’s residents. As a result, the Staten Island Heart Society was established in 2004, with Donna Boulanger Dixon as our first Director of Operations.
The Board represents a broad cross section of Island professionals and seasoned volunteers who can help achieve the goals of the Staten Island Heart Society. The goals are very simply:
Many of the activities that were run when we worked with the American Heart Association continue but with the promise that all monies raised will stay onStaten Island.
One of the programs we are most proud of is our Youth Leadership Program. is the Staten Island Heart Society Youth Board was established in 2008. This leadership council, dubbed the “Young at Heart” is comprised of young men and women ages 14 – 23 who are dedicated to making a difference in our community. Many of these youth are Certified First Responders, BLS-CPR certified, as well as certified CPR instructors.
